NEJOYE Engineering Guide

Portable Power Station Buyer’s Guide & Runtime Calculator

How to choose the ideal battery capacity, continuous wattage, and battery chemistry for outdoor adventures, RV van builds, and commercial backup projects.

Step 1: Watts (W) vs. Watt-Hours (Wh)

When selecting a portable power station, two core metrics determine whether it can run your equipment:

⚡ Rated Wattage (W) = Power Output

Tells you which appliances can run simultaneously. A 600W station can easily power a 65W laptop and a 45W car cooler, but requires a 1800W–2400W station for high-draw appliances like coffee makers or microwaves.

🔋 Battery Capacity (Wh) = Energy Tank

Tells you how long appliances will run. A 1089Wh battery provides roughly twice the operational runtime of a 569Wh battery before requiring a recharge.

Step 2: How to Calculate Exact Appliance Runtimes

Due to DC-to-AC inverter conversion and internal operational overhead, standard usable AC efficiency is 85%. Always apply our 85% formula for accurate planning:

Runtime (Hours) = [ Capacity (Wh) × 0.85 ] ÷ Appliance Power (Watts)

Calculation Example: Running a 60W portable camping fridge on the NEJOYE D1000 (1089Wh):
Runtime = (1089Wh × 0.85) ÷ 60W ≈ 15.4 Hours of continuous cooling.

Step 3: Common Appliance Power & Recommended Models

Equipment Power Load Estimated Runtime / Recharges Recommended Model
Smartphones & Drones 11W–40W 20–40 full recharges P350 / D350 (284Wh)
Laptops & Cameras 60W–100W 6–8 full laptop charges P600 / D600 (569Wh)
CPAP Machine & Car Coolers 40W–60W 15–20 Hours continuous D1000 / P1000 (1089Wh)
Coffee Maker & Blender 1000W–1500W 1.5–2 Hours continuous D1800 / P1800 (1306Wh)
Power Tools & Home Backup 2000W–3600W Full jobsite day power D2400 / D3600 (2304Wh–3072Wh)

Step 4: LiFePO4 vs. NMC Battery Chemistries

P-Series & F-Series

LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate)

3,000+ lifecycle cycles (8–10 years longevity), superior thermal safety, and rapid 1.5-hour AC recharge. Best for regular RV living, vans, and commercial daily usage.

D-Series Lineup

NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt)

High energy density (lighter per Wh) with outstanding low-temperature cold weather discharge capability. Ideal for winter outdoor adventures and portable mobile work.
